About Prof. Dr. M A Salam: Dr. Salam was born in Pabna in Bangladesh on 24th January 1951. He joined the Ministry of health to work in the district general hospital as General Surgeon in 1981 after obtaining a fellowship in the same year from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. In1998 he joined in the Department of Urology as Assistant Professor in the IPGMR which is now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. 

He joined the Institute of Urology, London, UK for two years W.H.O fellowship program.  At the Institute of Urology, Dr. M.A.Salam was under the mentorship of Mr. T. Warick, Mr. A.R.Mandy, Mr. Jhon Pryor, and Mr. P.J.R.Shah, who are well-reputed faculty in Urology. Dr. M.A.Salam returned to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in April 1992. Since then he is working in the same University hospital rendering advanced urological care and tendering technology and skill, conducting teaching and research program with the capacity of Associate professor, Professor and since 2003 as a Professor of Uro Oncology in the same university hospital. 

He retired from the BSMMU in May 2012. His current interest concerned the prevention and management of GU cancer, including Adrenal, Kidney, Bladder, Prostate, Testis, and Penile Cancer.  He is the founder president and CEO of the Urology and transplant foundation of Bangladesh located at 45/1 Green Road Dhaka, Bangladesh.

আনিস আহমেদ নতুন এক জোড়া জুতা কিনেছেন। প্রথম দিন জুতা পায়ে অফিস করার পর থেকেই পায়ে ফোস্কা পড়েছে। তিনি ভাবলেন দিন কয়েকের মধ্যে সেরে যাবে। কিন্তু কয়েকদিন গেলেও ফোস্কা শুকাচ্ছে না, বরং ঘা বড় হয়েছে। ভাবনায় পরে চিকিৎসকের কাছে গিয়ে তিনি জানতে পারলেন তার এই সমস্যা ডায়াবেটিসজনিত জটিলতা। ডায়াবেটিক রোগীর পায়ের যত্ন নিয়ে বিশেষভাবে সচেতন হতে হয়। অন্যথায় সমস্যা আরো বেড়ে যেতে পারে। ডায়াবেটিস এমন একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি রোগ যা রক্তে গ্লুকোজের মাত্রা অনিয়ন্ত্রিত রাখে এবং শরীরের বিভিন্ন অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গে এর প্রভাব ফেলে। ডায়াবেটিসের ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব পায়ের ওপরে বিশেষভাবে দেখা যায়। দীর্ঘমেয়াদি ডায়াবেটিসের কারণে পায়ের স্নায়ু ও রক্তনালী ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়, যার ফলে পায়ে সংবেদনশীলতার অভাব, রক্ত সঞ্চালনের সমস্যা এবং সংক্রমণ দেখা দিতে পারে। তাই ডায়াবেটিক রোগীদের পায়ের যত্ন নেওয়া অত্যন্ত জরুরি। ডায়াবেটিক রোগীর পায়ের যত্ন নেওয়া জরুরি কেন? ডায়াবেটিসের কারণে পায়ের স্নায়ু ও রক্তনালী ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হয়। এতে পায়ের স্নায়ুগুলো সংবেদনশীলতা হারাতে শুরু করে। এই অবস্থাটি নিউরোপ্যাথি নামে পরিচিত। নিউরোপ্যাথির কারণে রোগী অনেকসময় পায়ে আঘাত...
